International air cargo terminal that grew the most in Brazil in 2023, the Floripa Airport Cargo ended the first half of this year with even more encouraging numbers. In the first six months of 2024, the terminal surpassed by 72% the record achieved in 2023 in the tonnage of cargo handled, with approximately 7 thousand air shipments, around 515 importers passed through the terminal in the capital of Santa Catarina.
Last year, contrary to the national market, which saw a 24% drop in the movement of goods, the Florianópolis cargo terminal registered a growth of 23% compared to the same period in 2022. In the first two months of 2024, it took over for leadership in the movement of international cargo in the state of Santa Catarina for the first time in history.
There are currently 4 freight routes operating regularly between Miami and Florianópolis and 2 weekly routes to Europe, connecting the capital of Santa Catarina to Amsterdam, in the Netherlands and Brussels, in Belgium. Soon, another import opportunity will arise with the start of TAP's commercial route, connecting Floripa to Lisbon. The expectation is that the flight will move 300 tons of goods per month on its 3 weekly frequencies, starting on September 3rd this year.
To ensure that the airport is prepared to meet the growing demands of the logistics market, Zurich Airport Brasil, the concessionaire that manages the terminal, invested around R$8 million in the expansion and construction of new spaces and more than R$2,5 million in equipment for use in the cargo terminal. The new 1.853 cubic meter cold storage complex was recently inaugurated, and in the coming months work on expanding the dry cargo warehouses will be completed, which will triple the storage and cargo processing capacity.
