Florianópolis returns to having direct flights to Argentina

04 January 2021

Direct flights between Florianópolis and Buenos Aires began last Sunday (03), one of the most awaited destinations by travelers. The first flight arrived in the capital of Santa Catarina at 16:15 pm. The route, which had not been operated since the beginning of the pandemic, will have 2 weekly flights - on Wednesdays and Sundays, until the end of April, and will be operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas.

The flights are part of the high season schedule and mark the “official arrival” of Argentine tourists, as the land borders between the countries remain closed. The direct flight is the best and fastest way to connect Santa Catarina to the neighboring country.

“Certainly this is a route that represents a lot for the entire region. It is a great reflection of our gradual recovery. We have already resumed flights to Chile and Paraguay and now to Argentina. This shows that the Floripa Airport is doing its part, always ready and safe to operate at the highest quality", says Ricardo Gesse, CEO of the airport.

But the route is not only important for the tourist sector. According to data from the Argentine Consulate in Florianópolis, about 10 Argentines live in Santa Catarina, with 5 in Florianópolis. Therefore, flights allow the reunion of several families who are having this opportunity for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.

“They are the first frequencies to be re-established between Argentina and Brazil, only after recent experiences with São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The resumption of direct flights between Florianópolis and Buenos Aires is a clear example of the importance of Santa Catarina to the Argentine Republic in the social, economic, political and cultural fields", said the Consul of the Argentine Republic in Florianópolis, Gustavo Coppa.

A Floripa Airport, the airport administrator, has adopted all the requirements of national and international health authorities, adding extra measures to prevent the virus. For all these initiatives, the airport received the Safe Travels Seal, approved by the World Tourism Organization.
