05 Feb 2024

One of the most anticipated routes in the history of Florianópolis International Airport, the flight between Florianópolis and North America and the Caribbean, via Panama, is now a reality. From June 25, 2024, passengers will be able to board direct flights to Panama, the so-called hub of the Americas, at Florianópolis International Airport. From there, you can connect directly to North America and the Caribbean. The announcement of the arrival of the new route operated by Copa Airlines was made at an event held this afternoon, at the Panoramic Terrace of Floripa Airport, with the presence of guests and authorities.

Panama City has a strategic location and a fundamental role in connectivity with North America and the Caribbean. From there, Copa operates 85 destinations in 32 countries. The route will have a frequency of 3 times a week, with capacity for 160 passengers per flight and will begin operating on June 25, 2024. Florianópolis becomes Copa Airlines' seventh destination in Brazil.

“The arrival of Copa Airlines is a milestone in the operations of Zurich Airport Brasil. The new route meets an old desire of the people of Santa Catarina, which reinforces our position as a gateway to the State. Now, it will be essential to intensify the tourism promotion of Santa Catarina in the markets connected by the World Cup”, says Ricardo Gesse, CEO of Zurich Airport Brasil.

The unprecedented route reinforces the internationalization of Florianópolis Airport, which now has four international airlines operating regularly - Copa Airlines, SKY, Flybondi and JetSMART.

"People from Santa Catarina will be able to fly to the entire American continent more quickly, without any stopover here in Brazil. We are on another level. I am very happy with this news that I received directly from the president of the Panama company", said governor Jorginho Mello.

The Secretary of Tourism of the State of Santa Catarina, Evandro Neiva, stated: “Today with the inauguration of the new route, we are reaping the fruits of the efforts of several departments and personally of the governor. It is a result of intense work since the beginning of public management with the airport and with the airline to reinforce the commitment to Santa Catarina, connecting the state with more international destinations. We have increasingly sought to strengthen tourism in Santa Catarina on different fronts. The route between Florianópolis and Panama results in an advance in the internationalization of Santa Catarina beyond South America, opening doors to the northern hemisphere”,

In addition to Florianópolis, Copa Airlines also announced the incorporation of new routes to Tulum, in Mexico and Raleigh-Durham, in the United States.
“We remain firm in our purpose of shortening distances and facilitating connections, allowing Panama to continue being the bridge that unites thousands of people across the continent, while at the same time contributing to the economic development of the communities where we operate. This strategic expansion not only promotes cultural exchange in the region, but also enables and deepens tourism and business in Brazil, Mexico and the United States, in addition to opening the opportunity for more tourists to enjoy the wonders of Panama, thanks to the program Panama Stopover", said Pedro Heilbron, executive president of Copa Airlines.
